The primary mission of the Waray Storybook Series (The Maya Series) is to create stories that highlight Waray culture, arts and traditions. To also preserve our cultural identity and heritage for the next generation. To encourage cultural exchange for better understanding with other nations.
Our world is smaller because of modern technology but the need to connect with each other is greater as families settle all over the world.

 

ABOUT THE CREATORS

The Author
Dr. Bernadette Mondejar-Schlueter was born and raised in Tacloban City, Philippines. As an educator and a lifelong learner, she has completed four degrees to date, including a doctorate. She was a teacher and an administrator in the Philippines, Japan, Korea, Guam, Belgium, and currently, in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Schlueter was selected as the 2012 Department of Defense Education Activity Korea District Teacher of the Year and one of Filipina Women’s Network‘s 2016 Most Influential Filipina Women of the World.

 

The Illustrator
Ed Rompal is one of the most prolific artists in Tacloban City, Philippines. He was influenced by his artist father and started drawing at four years old. A self-taught artist, he continues to evolve and dabbles in imaginative illustrations, cartoons, graphic tees, and calligraphy. His works have been featured in several local and international magazines. He offers basic art workshops throughout the year.

 

The Translator for English-Filipino version
Diether Ocampo is the most prolific award-winning Filipino actor in primetime drama series today. He was part of at least 11 teleseryes, more than any actor has done in Philippine television. He was the Gawad Tanglaw Best Supporting Actor for the movie Dalaw, and Star Awards Best Actor for the teleserye Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin.
A serious sportsman, he regularly competes in golf and polo tournaments locally and internationally. He is also a painter and has a burning passion to constantly learn and master new skills.
Ocampo is an active Lieutenant Commander of the Philippine Coast Guard PCGA and an honorary member of Foreign Armed Forces Attache. He holds an extensive record of volunteerism and charity work in various organizations in the Philippines.

 

The Translator for English-German version
Michael Steiner is an award-winning Swiss movie director. He won the Swiss Film Prize in 2006 (Best Feature Film category) for Mein Name ist Eugen. His movies, Grounding - The last days of Swissair, Sennentuntschi and Wolkenbruch were the most successful films in Swiss cinemas. Wolkenbruch is currently on Netflix worldwide.
Mr. Steiner lives in Zurich. He is the proud father of two Swiss-Filipino children, Dean Michael Mondejar Steiner and Jane Minerva Mondejar Steiner.

 

The Translator for English-Waray version
Hon. Carlo P. Loreto has been serving the people of Leyte as Vice-Governor since 2013. He is a lawyer by profession and is an advocate of environmental and humanitarian concerns. He is the National Secretary General for the League of Vice-Governors of the Philippines (LVGP). He is the former National President for the Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines and National Secretary General of the National Movement of Young Legislators (NYML).

 

The co-Translator of English-Waray version
Ardeen Tuballas Capate has been writing Waray poems since high school. He is a graduate of JE Mondejar Computer College in Tacloban City. As a student, he wrote the lyrics of JEMCC’s school hymn. After working for the Department of Education for 14 years, he moved to the Philippine National Police and is currently a member of the Non-Uniformed Personnel in San Roque, Northern Samar. He is a father of nine children, three girls and six boys.

ABOUT THE PUBLISHER

Minerva Mondejar Steiner is the CEO of JE Mondejar Book Publishing House, a third-generation family-owned company based in the Philippines with satellite offices in Switzerland, England and Australia.

Retired Colonel Manuel P. Mondejar started Mondejar Printing Press in 1945 and specialized in printing Congressional Records. He was the publisher of The Midweek Reporter and EVAA News, and a journalist for The Philippine Herald. He wrote two books, Leyte Firsts and Thoughts That Inspire for All Occasions and was the national president of the Press Alliance of the Philippines . The company building was inaugurated by no less than President Ramon Magsaysay and the offset printing machinery by Senator Gil J. Puyat.

Second-generation owner Jose Rene E. Mondejar published the Book of Nudes when he was only 16 years old, the first songbook with guitar chords in the Philippines. He expanded the company by adding modern offset printing machines and publishing the Option newspaper and Scope Newsmagazine in Eastern Visayas.

Now on its third-generation of family ownership, JE Mondejar Book Publishing House is focusing on the international publication of books, magazines, and reading materials by Filipino and international writers, scientists and artists.
